Exploring loneliness and students’ sense of coherence (S-SoC) in the university setting

Abstract Background. Loneliness is a prevalent global public health issue, and this topic also common among university students. From health-related, resource-oriented approach like the salutogenic model, loneliness can be interpreted as potential stressor. To cope effectively with stressor, strong Sense of Coherence needed to mobilize resources social support. Interventions promote wellbeing within setting should include focus. However, currently, research regarding salutogenesis higher education lacking. Therefore, study aims make first attempt explore relation between Students' (S-SoC) Methods. An online questionnaire was sent out all students from Carinthia University Applied Sciences (CUAS), Austria. The completed by 584 (response rate 28.86 %); 67.3% were female, average age 25.16 years ( SD = 6.27 years). Full-time made up 75.6% sample, 84.6% in Bachelor's degree program. S-SoC sub-scales comprehensibility, meaningfulness manageability measured using valid scale (Brunner et al., 2009). Social emotional six-item De Jong Gierveld (Jong & van Tilburg, 2006). Spearman correlations Kruskal-Wallis H-tests computed other variables (e.g., age, sex...). Furthermore, graphical model used show structural relationships control variables.
